Diferences between RS232 and RS485

Transmission method: RS232 wireless router adopts unbalanced transmission that is also called single-ended communication. RS485 use a balanced transmission, that is, differential transmission.

Transmission distance: RS232 router suits for local devices communication, the transmission distance is generally not more than 20m. RS485 transmission distance can reach tens of meters to kilometers.

RS-232 allows only one-to-one communication, while the RS-485 interface allows up to 128 transceivers on the bus

RS232 is defined as a single-ended standard for increasing the communication distance in low-speed serial communications. RS232 take unbalanced transmission that is the so-called single-ended communication. The received and originating data signal is relative to the signal ground.

RS-485 and RS-232 are not the same. Its data signal uses differential transmission, also known as balanced transmission.
